Mission's Trip

I just got back from my Mission's Trip to Union Grove, Wisconsin. We went to the Shepherd's Home there that deals with the Mentally Retarded. Wow, all I have to say is I was expecting to minister to them, but in reality, they were the ones that ministered to me. It was one of the best things I have done in my life... I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I know that this wasn't it. I had done some work with other people like them, but a whole bunch at one time, I was expecting it to be a long week, but it went by really, really fast! I met some excellent people while I was there; I'll just name a few. Keep in mind that our "motto" for the week was; "God doesn't make mistakes" it will help you understand a lot if you ever work with these people!

First was Dennis. Now Dennis is a former pastor and he had a stroke, which is what put him where he is. He was sharing just a little bit about his life to us, and just was a great person to be around, and he always had a smile! His wife divorced him after he had his stroke, and he said to us: "I am not the one that is divorced, she is. She is the one that left me, and according to my Bible, she's not supposed to do that." It was just a really small glimpse of what he had to go through in his life already.

Next would be Melody. She was a great person! I worked with her the first day, and then the rest of the week we just grew closer. She was also telling me about her life and how she was kind of treated like a slave, she had to watch her younger siblings for free and do a lot of dirty work around the house that no one else wanted to do and it sounded like she was verbally abused. She actually asked to go to Shepherd's. You think because it is a Christian organization, their families put them there, but some have different reasons, just like Melody! But she is making something out of her life and is working for it.

Every single resident is just amazing! I enjoyed getting to know a lot of people, trust me there are more but these two really made me think about a lot of things. I pray that I can keep in touch with some of them!

Nationals

We just got back a little while ago from the National Talents for Christ competition in Lancaster, PA!! It was so much fun!! I did not place, but thanks for everyone who was praying for me, it meant a lot!! I had a ton of people who told me they were praying for me! But it was still a great learning experience!

I felt that I did a great job, and I did my best for the Lord, the judges were just really strict about it... that's okay though, I still have next year!!! I'm so happy for everyone who did place though!!

We had TEN people from Iowa that placed!!! YEAH!!! Eight of whom were on the Tour! Joshua got 1st place in Male Voice; his sister Julie got 2nd in Bible Knowledge; Bekah got 1st in Female Voice; Nick got 1st in Visualized Bible Teaching; Anthony got 2nd in Preaching; Ethan got 1st in Brass; Jessica got 1st in Oral Interpretation of Scripture and Mary got 2nd in Piano.

Five other people from Tour competed but did not place, but we all did a great job, and I'm very proud of everyone!! It was great seeing everyone again as well, and I can't wait to see them again at camp!!

Now I got to finish getting packed for the Mission's Trip - I leave tomorrow! Just got back from a 17 hour drive one way and now I get another 6-7 hour drive! See you when I get back!

Talents for Christ Tour

I just got back from the Talents for Christ Tour (TFC Tour) yesterday and it was SO much fun!!! It was a blast! I was with a lot of people that I knew from last year and 2 guys from my church, but I was also able to get to know a lot of other people as well! We had 2 leaders; Dave Tebbenkamp and Jeanie Saylor and then we had 16 teens; Mary and Sarah (sisters) Joshua and Julie (siblings) and then Alizabeth, Bekah, Katie, Lydia, Jessica and me for the girls, then for the guys; Taylor and Ethan from my church and Anthony, Paul, Nick and Thomas.

We stayed at several different churches and we got to meet a lot of fellow believers and we also got to do our Talent every night! There are many stories to tell and lots of things that happened, but it would take a long time to say everything on here, you'll just have to talk to me if you want to know more!!

Graduation

Today we had my brother's graduation open house; it was so much fun!! Our family all came (for the most part) and helped set everything up and get it ready. It was a blast hanging out with my cousins and seeing everyone that came as well. He had a really good turn out today and I think he was happy with all that happened! All I know is - we'll be having leftovers for a LONG time to come!!! Congratulations Kris!!!

Washington, D.C

I'm back!! It's so nice to be home once again! Washington, D.C was a lot of fun, and we all had a great time, but I wasn't able to sleep as well as I do in my own bed. I'm sure all of you know how that goes.

We flew out to D.C. on the 21st of May. It was a good flight, I guess. I found out that flying isn't my favorite thing to do. (I figured it wouldn't be!) I felt dizzy when I was up there. Everyone said that the takeoff and the landing would be the worst part, but I thought that it was more fun.

We got there and we were all pretty tired, so we didn't do too much. However, there was a Wal-Mart right by our hotel and so we went there to waste a few hours! My brother ended up getting a Digital Camera, so he was excited.

Then we went to the Arlington National Cemetery and we watched the Changing of the Guards. It was really cool to watch and see everything that they did. Then my dad had meetings and we changed hotels that day. There we were close to the Pentagon and it was really cool. There was this really big mall that we went to on Wednesday. It was so awesome! We didn't find out about it until the day we had to leave there, go figure! But it was fun to walk around. They actually had a Dippin' Dots stand!! Of course I got some! They had a lot more flavors to pick from than Adventureland! Ha ha!

On Thursday, we changed hotels again and went to this really ritzy place. It was called the Omni Shoreham Hotel which has a lot of claim to fame. They have had a lot of famous people stay there. But then you get to their rooms, and they weren't as great as the lobby! (Kind of saw that one coming, didn't you?) It was so nasty... we had a ton of ants crawling on the floor in one area of the room. We called the front desk "Oh, we'll send someone up right away to spray." Do you think they did? NO! Their service was horrible, sorry to say, but I would never want to go there again! At least we didn't have to pay for it. :D The best thing about staying there though, was on Thursday night, either the Vise President or the President himself, went by us on the motorcade!!!!! I was ecstatic!

Friday, we did a LOT of walking. We walked over 10 miles, and that is not exaggerating. We saw all the different sights to see in D.C. We saw the White House, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Capitol, the National Cathedral and a house that was 7 feet wide. We took the Old Town Trolley Tour and it was an excellent thing to do. It even drove us by Vise President Cheney's house! It was a guided tour, so we got a lot of information, too. Plus, at the end of the day, the Vise President went by us in the motorcade. He was going home! :D

On Sunday, we went to the National Zoo with some friends that we haven't seen for a few years, and it was so much fun to see all of them and catch up. It was a lot of fun! It was good for my mom, too, as it's her best friend. So I was glad that they got to see each other.

Then, we pretty much didn't do anything on Monday, we checked out, and some of us went to the Zoo again to see some things that we weren't able to get pictures of. Then it was lunch time and time to head for the airport to sit for a few hours while we were waiting!

I had a lot of "firsts" on this trip though! First time flying, first time in a Taxi, first time in a Subway and first time in a Transit Bus.

All in all, it was a great time, but I was so glad to be back home and in my own bed!

Excited/Nervous

WOW! I didn't realize that it had been this long since I posted anything! I'm finally doing better and I'm so happy!

Last Saturday, we went to Adventureland (which is a Theme Park) and we had so much fun! My best friend that moved away last year was there, and although we didn't get to hang out as much as we would've liked, we still had a blast! While we were on the Ski Lift (which takes you from one end of the park to another) there were 6 guys that said I was hot! It was so funny! All I said in return was "I know" Now, if you know me, you know that I would never actually say that to someone!!! But the worst thing was; it stopped when we were by 2 of the guys and I already said that! I freaked out! So his reply was "Your Dang Hot!" So I was just like, "I know" and turned around and ignored him! That was so embarrassing! But otherwise Adventureland was so much fun; I even won a free T-Shirt from the Rally!

We are going to Washington, D.C. on Monday, I'm kind of nervous for it though! I have never flown in a plane before, so needless to say, I'm going to be doing a lot of praying! It should be a lot of fun though, just a new experience! I'll be sure to tell you about it when I get back!

Happy Birthday (times two)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDMA!!! I LOVE YOU!!! Today is my grandma's birthday, as you can tell! We went out to eat and had a blast... if you know my grandma -- you'll have to ask her what we got her for her present!!! It's the best! :D I love you grandma, and I pray that we can continue to enjoy each other for many more years to come!

Also -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY KYLE!!!! (Kyle and I have been friends pretty much since he started coming to our church... {just for everyone reading!}) I hope you are having a great day, and that it's really special! See you Sunday!!

Ouch!

I got my four Wisdom Teeth pulled last Thursday, so if you were wondering where I've been -I've been in pain! ;)

My brother got his Wisdom Teeth pulled a 9 days before me, and had no problems at all... so I was expecting the same exact thing! ....not so. They had problems with me, and I won't go into much detail, but it wasn't fun! I ended up having to have the emergency doctor come in on Saturday and he took care of a lot of the pain!! YEAH!

So now, a week later, I'm mostly pain free! I'm back to doing more things that I usually do. (I'm on the computer! :D) So hopefully no more problems!

PayPerPost Rocks!

As all of you guys know, I've been blogging with PayPerPost to advertise on blogs and I am getting paid for what I write! (Finally, what I say is important! :D)

My cousin Katie got me started, she wrote a manual for me to follow and has been a great help to me in this whole thing!

I got my blog approved in March of 2007 and have been making money ever since! I started right away, I couldn't wait! Currently, I have made about $45 and am going to be paid about $30 more. I am looking to get a higher Google Page Rank so I can be making more money, and advertise for more people!!

I have throughly enjoyed using PayPerPost to advertise on blogs and I am looking forward to many more years of blogging! If anyone wants to know how to get started; feel free to ask me any questions!

Exhausted

Wow, it has been a busy week! I've done a lot of babysitting jobs, and it was extremely fun, but you get tired after a while! Kids have so much energy, but I still love them!

The weather has been so beautiful! Today it was 88 degrees outside!! It makes for wonderful babysitting weather, because then they don't get bored staying inside all day. I was outside pretty much every time I was babysitting! It was a blast!

They are both a joy to be around, and we always have fun... and since the weather was nice yesterday, we played outside in the sand. It was an awesome night, and I'll be watching them again later this week!! YEAH!

Lots of Fun

The week-end was a lot of fun, my dad had meetings, so we didn't do a whole lot, but it was a nice break. I'm tired though because I did not sleep good! No one did! We were eating breakfast, and everyone complained!!! The beds just were not comfortable.

But, anyway, we went shopping on Saturday. That was really fun, we went to some stores we haven't been to before, and we went to stores that we always to to when we're in Des Monies! Wellspring being one of them! That is the best Christian book store we have ever been to! I got a new CD, and it's awesome! It's meant for kids, but I LOVE the songs (it's not really just kids songs, their just funny/catchy songs!) So I love my new CD! :D

After shopping, we went to the Machine Shed which is another place we always go to. It's a country (Iowan - ha) style restaurant, and they have really, really good food! But that's where the guys wanted to go for supper, and we told them that it's their birthdays, and they always do things, but this time the waitress said she would, and then she didn't... so that was kind of disappointing!

But overall, it was a lot of fun!

Happy 94th!!

Well today is my Great Grandma's 94th birthday!! Happy birthday Grandma Dell!

It has been a full day! We had everyone over to our place, and it ended up that the news channel came!! So we all got interviewed and... WOW was that interesting!! First of all, if you know my family at least a little bit, you know how hard it is to get everyone serious! So the interview was something else! And the David Pint (that's the camera man and all) wasn't exactly sure what to do. He said that it's by far the most interesting, and funny, interview he's done! It was kind of embarrassing! HA!

But it aired at 6pm and it was cute. So, yet another birthday in April, HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDMA!!

It's Done!

It's over!... And... I have great news!! I got first place! It was so awesome, and the best part was that I got to see my friends, which some I haven't seen in almost a year! I ended up with a score of 94% which is pretty good and I'm happy with my score. I know that this year I did it for the Lord and everyone even my judges said it was evident, which was just amazing... I'm so happy that others could see it and my one lady judge said that God was just speaking through me. It was such an encouragement!

Leaving was the hardest... having to say goodbye. I pretty much cried when I finally had to say goodbye to Daneé. It was hard, but we'll probably see each other again on May 12Th which neither of us can wait for! On the way back the others wanted me to sit in back with them so I had to take as much time as I could for my eyes to dry up! I know some guys saw me, but they were nice enough to not say anything - they knew the reason! :-S

Anyway, everyone did a great job! I'm so happy and can't wait for Nationals and everything else for TFC (Talents for Christ) that is involved! My friends from other churches who also placed are: Mary L - 1st; Sara L - 2nd and Thomas C - 2nd. And then from another church: Joshua F. - 1st; Julie F - 1st. Great job guys!

Getting closer!

So, today it's FOUR days away! I'm so excited, but I'm a little bit nervous for the impromptu speech!

We all did our TFC (Talents For Christ) for church on Sunday during the evening service. Everyone did great! My speech went pretty good, my voice broke during my conclusion, but that's OK, as long as I did it for God's glory, He's my only audience!

Sunday afternoon, we went rollerskating with my Grandma's church at the RollerRink. That was SO much fun!! My Grandma even went skating! It was just a blast! I guess she used to be able to "two-step" really fancy, but she got her skates on and went out there, and she said she was too wobbly, she was surprised! I hadn't skated in quite a few years, but I didn't fall down!! I went for a couple hours straight, and although I'm not sure it was worth four blisters (Grandma said it was from turning the same way all the time, which I would agree!) It was still fun! (I think I said that already!)

Anyway, I'll be babysitting a lot the next few days, so I'm not sure if I'll have time to update this, but I'll try!

If you think of me on Saturday, please pray for me and for everyone else! I'm right off the bat at 10am!

Saturday, March 24, 2007

ONE WEEK!

So, I woke up this morning, and all I've been thinking through-out the day is "Well, I'll be doing my speech at this time" or "I'll be done with my speech" and "This person will be doing theirs at this time next week" and things like that! What it means is, ONE week from today, and TFC will be here! TFC is Talents for Christ, and it's next week as you can tell! I give my speech at 10am, and I'm sure I will be nervous! So if you think about me, pray for me!

Tomorrow, I give my speech for the church in the evening service, and will be excited for that as well! I'm usually nervous before I start and after I'm done, but while I'm doing it, it's not that bad unless I make a mistake, then I get nervous! But, with God's help, I'll do great!

Fun while cleaning

So I just got back a little bit ago from cleaning our youth's leader's old house. There were 7 ladies including me, and we got a lot done! At one point, it was just me and two other girls, and man were they freaking out!! They were screaming, and one time, they were all holding on to me while I was sweeping, and we saw car lights and I screamed really loud just to make them scream, and BOY did it work!! They both screamed really loud! But we had a lot of fun and making them scream was really funny!

Well, then on the way home, we were talking about real horror stories like accidents with deer and all that, so we were all a little freaked out, and she dropped me off right by my car, and all of a sudden, this guy that I know, Joshua, was right in front of my car!! I hardly get scared, and I about screamed (for real this time!) It was kind of a weird night, but we still had fun!

Anyway, I think I'm going to head for bed, I'm tired and we have to get up early in the morning again! Good night!

Spring Break

So, this week is Spring Break! We don't get it, but Nate does! I don't think we are doing anything special, we haven't yet, but I guess that's all that's going on!
Church was really cool tonight, we had fun as usual... although it was a little sad as our youth leader is going to be moving over 14 hours away! So tonight he gave one last challenge to us... then he was presented with a plaque, and they both started crying... I hate when people cry, because then it makes me want to cry!! We will be saying our final good-bye on Sunday, and they will be leaving a week from now at like 4 in the morning! So Sunday will be our last time seeing them for a while, but I'm sure they will be back to visit!

So much fun!

We had so much fun on Friday night! Even though it was long.... it was a blast! I didn't really study for the quizzing, but ended up getting 3rd place! Which put me in 2nd place overall! It was really cool, they didn't have my trophy there, but I will be getting it soon I guess!
Our speaker, Dave Whitcher, was really good, I have heard him before, but he did an excellent job on sharing the Salvation Message!
Bowling... I did win a few games!! I played with this girl that I hadn't met before, but she was a lot of fun!
Today was daylight savings, and I'm so tired after staying up all night and then getting up early this morning! So with that, I think I'm going to go!

Gonna be a long day/night!

So tonight we have a all-nighter at church! We are going to bowl for 4 hours and before that we are going to be doing different games, quizzing and a message. The speaker is going to be Dave Witcher, I've heard him before, he has some really good stuff!
I was only going to go until after the quizzing is over, but I just remembered that I can drive between those times, and my mom doesn't want me to risk it tonight, so I'll be awake until after 6am tomorrow! Hopefully I can make it!;) I'm sure I'll be tired! Although I'll probably take a nap before I go, don't know how much sleep I'll get! We have to be there at 10pm tonight. Guess I should get some stuff done! BYE!

Done and Over (for now)

Ok, so tonight went pretty good! I was kind of nervous as I said just because it was more personal. I was doing great... right up until the conclusion! I lost my spot and totally could NOT find it!! I was so embarrassed and just wanted to go hide! :P Everyone clapped when I was done, so I don't think it was a total waste, but still.... oh well! Like my friend said, at least it was at church instead of the competition! I just need to get that part memorized (which I'm working on) and then I'll do fine! Overall - it was fine!

Happy Birthday!

Today is my Aunt's birthday! Happy birthday Aunt Ginny! It was funny, today in Sunday School we were talking about commands, and I kept thinking about her because she always says that her birthday is the only day that's a command. March 4th - March Fourth as in forward!
Tomorrow I'm doing my Talents For Christ speech for our cake decorating class. I hope that goes well, I'm a little nervous because it's a small group and more personal I guess. Oh well, I'll get through it! It's good practice!

Nothing but White

It is all snow!! Everything is cancelled again. At least we didn't loose power in the second storm! Some people in our church have just gotten their power back on, that's a long time!! Everything is cancelled once again, but that's okay I guess! I think we're going to go to town tonight!! My mom loves driving in this weather as long as they aren't advising people to stay home, we'll go! Then it's not that big of a risk! We'll have to see what the next few days hold in store!

Winter Storm

WOW! So we lost our power about 4:30 on Saturday and we were without for just shy of 24 hours. We didn't have heat, but we lit some candles and piled on the blankets when we went to bed. What they were telling us, was, that Plymouth would be without electricity for 5 days I'm so glad that we got it back though!
We weren't able to go to church on Sunday morning, but we got shoveled out and we went to the evening service. Everything was closed! The mail has been stopped, tow trucks aren't even allowed to get people out of the ditches yet - the state won't allow it - and it's just a mess... there is snow everywhere too! I went out yesterday morning with a yardstick and we had 9 inches, and it's still coming down! Bad news is, we're supposed to get hit with another storm on Wednesday night!
Pastor said that there were about 60 people total for both of the services, I wonder how many people were duplicates! In the evening service there were about 70 I would guess. I hope the next storm isn't too bad!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy birthday mom! Today is my mom's birthday, I won't tell you her age though! My mom is an awesome lady, and we have a great relationship between us. I'm so thankful for her and I'm glad that she's my mom!
Anyway, the cake for Kiley turned out really cute! It was a lot easier than the Super Bowl cake! I had a horse eating hay, and it said; "HAY! Kiley, sorry to hear you're leaving" Once again I don't have a picture on the computer, otherwise I would show you!
It's starting to look like it's getting bad out, so I don't know what the week-end will hold! Our youth activity got cancelled, and rescheduled to March 9th... so I'll be home tonight! I need to get going, bye!

Another Cake?

Okay, so I said I wasn't going to do another cake, but last week I got asked to do another one!! It's for a little girl that is leaving our church. So that's what I'm doing today! They want it tomorrow, so I have to get it done!
I guess we are supposed to have a really bad winter storm, that's what everyone has been talking about lately! It's not bad out yet, but we'll find out!
Anyway, I really got to get started!

Scrapbooking fun!

Today my Aunt came to our house to have fun scrapbooking together! It was a blast we had so much fun! My Great-grandma and my Grandma were going to come, but things came up and they weren't able to. :0( I guess they'll just have to do it another time! We had so much fun and we got a lot of stuff done!
We didn't go really late because we still had our cake class, but we had a great day fellowshipping with one another and just hanging out while we worked!! Can't wait to do it again!

Valentine's Day

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! I'm Valentine-less, so my day was pretty much like any other day! Oh well, I'm okay with that, God will bring a guy into my life when He knows I'm ready!
Church was good tonight, we didn't have a party or anything, but that's ok! Not much else going on, just wanted to say Happy "V-day!"

Working Away!

So today we had a theatre play in Mason City, for the homeschoolers, Henry and Ramona. It was very cute, I guess I was not familiar with the story, so it was cute to watch, a little on the children's side, but still good! The kids did a very nice job of performing and were cute as they were saying their lines.
After the play we went to work on my brother's visuals at a lady's house from church. He wasn't able to drop things off, which was fine, he had to work, so my mom and I dropped off his stuff and kind of showed her what he wanted. What it is, is for Talents For Christ (TFC) He is doing Visualized Bible Teaching on "The Fiery Furnace." I think that his idea is great, and pray he does good this year!!
I'm doing Female Public Speaking again this year and my speech is "At the end of Your Rope." I'm really excited about it, and have been working on it for a little while. It's at the end of March, so I have a little bit to keep perfecting it! I'm excited!
